Instagram Reels Safe-Zone Planning Template

Set top, right, bottom, and left planning insets, then export a 1080×1920 SVG guide for a vertical Reel canvas. The default is 10% on each side and can be changed; it is a layout aid, not an official Instagram safe-zone specification or guarantee that text will remain visible in every placement.

Create your placement template

The initial 10% insets are editable planning values. They are not official platform measurements.

Check the exported design in the actual publishing preview. UI, captions and controls can cover different areas. This tool does not automatically detect text or certify a safe zone.

Start here

Use the template to draw your own adjustable margins over a 1080×1920 vertical composition. Then inspect the actual Reel in Instagram's current preview and check the correct Meta ad preview if you are preparing an ad; this SVG does not measure or reproduce the live interface.

Export a guide you can adjust

The canvas is 1080×1920. Each inset control accepts a value from 0% to 45%, and the starting values are 10% on all four sides. At those defaults, the remaining guide rectangle is 864×1536 pixels: 1080 minus two 108-pixel side margins, and 1920 minus two 192-pixel top and bottom margins.

Those dimensions describe this tool's chosen drawing, not an Instagram rule. Change the guides to suit the composition and the version of the interface or placement you are checking. The downloadable SVG is a blank planning overlay; it is not an image checker, phone simulator, or in-app preview.

This route exports a reusable SVG guide without an image. For a different task—placing custom guides over an uploaded still and exporting an annotated review PNG—use the TikTok frame checker. Both tools use user-selected margins; neither supplies an official platform safe zone.

  1. Set the canvas guide

Start with the 1080×1920 vertical layout used by this SVG export.

  2. Adjust each inset

Move top, right, bottom, and left guides independently to mark areas you want to review.

  3. Export the SVG

Place the guide in an editor as a temporary layer and hide it before exporting the final video.

  4. Check the actual placement

Preview the Reel in the current Instagram app. For paid ads, review the selected placement and current Meta guidance separately.

Organic Reels and Reels ads need separate checks

Meta's current Reels business material discusses safe zones for Reels ads and points advertisers to its Reels ad safe-zone checker. That source is specifically about ad creative. It does not establish one permanent set of inset percentages for every organic Reel, device, caption length, and interface state.

The 10% defaults in this tool are therefore adjustable planning guides only. This statement is a careful reading of the scope of the cited ad guidance, not a claim that Meta has published or rejected a particular universal organic rectangle. Check current official instructions and the actual preview for the placement you intend to use.

Boundary values and limitations

Use any inset from 0% through 45%. A 0% inset draws the guide at the canvas edge; larger insets reserve more of the composition for the area you want to review. If the guide is too narrow or does not reflect the interface you see, adjust the four values and check the app preview again.

The template does not inspect uploaded video, measure Instagram's current controls, validate ad approval, guarantee accessibility, or guarantee that content remains visible. Interface overlays and crops can change with placement, device, account, and product updates.

What this page can’t establish

  • The 10% default on each side is a tool setting, not a universal or official Instagram safe-zone inset.
  • The SVG is a blank adjustable 1080×1920 planning guide; it does not inspect media or simulate the current organic interface.
  • Meta's cited safe-zone guidance is for Reels ads. Organic displays and other placements must be checked in their current preview.
  • The guide cannot guarantee visibility, accessibility, or ad approval.
